Acer Aspire Revo AR3600 HTPC review – a small computer which can play Full HD video smoothly

Since the compact-class budget computers become more and more popular throughout the world, we chose to review the Acer Revo AR3600 mini PC, which, despite the compact size and the friendly price, can play high-definition videos. In fact this computer is so small that it can be affixed to the rear of a LCD monitor by using the VESA mounting.

The biggest advantage of this device is its small size which allows you to take the computer with you whenever theres such need, so this product basically is a kind of portable computer without a screen. You can also easily connect it to a TV set to watch the latest movies with your family or friends.

We also liked the fact that all of the computer ports are very easily accessible. As for the connections, you should know that this computer has 6 USB ports, as well as eSATA data connection and a HDMI multimedia connection. The budget class computers usually arent equipped with eSATA or HDMI connections, so this is definitely a huge plus for such device.

Of course, the computer is also equipped with an universal memory card reader, audio input/output and an Ethernet network jack.

The manufacturer has included a small, white keyboard and white mouse in the standard package of this computer package. Though in our opinion, the design of this chiclet keyboard may seem childish to many. The keyboard is comfortable however.

Despite the small size of Acer Revo AR3600 mini PC HTPC, the computer is able to play Full HD videos smoothly, thanks to the embedded Nvidia Ion multimedia platform, while the most of other mini-computers are usually only sufficient for browsing the Internet.

Furthermore, the computer is also powerful enough for you to process photos with PhotoShop or transcode videos to another encoding format very quickly, thanks to Nvidia CUDA processing architecture. Actually you can do almost anything with this computer, except gaming.

Thanks to the Nvidia Ion platform, the computer can display the Aero Glass graphical user interface which is used in Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems without slowing down the computer. However originally this computer comes with a pre-installed Linux operating system which is adapted by Acer to fit this device.

This computer is eqquiped with an Intel Atom N230 1.6 GHz processor, 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, and the Nvidia Ion multimedia platform.

Movie and music lovers, and photographers will certainly enjoy the fact that this small computer has a hard drive with 320 GB capacity.

Pros:

+ Compact size, portable
+ Low price
+ Nvidia Ion platform with Nvidia CUDA technology support
+ HDMI and e-SATA connections
+ Can be attached to the back of a LCD monitor
+ A keyboard and mouse is included with this computer

Cons:

- Not suitable for gamers
- No optical disc drive
- The keyboard which is included in the package, looks childish
